Un adattamento che non ha avuto bisogno di Skeletor per distruggere Eternia.<\/b><\/h2>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ci ostiniamo a pensare che le storie possano sopravvivere a qualsiasi trasformazione. Cambiamo tono, cambiamo linguaggio, cambiamo valori, cambiamo estetica, e continuiamo a chiamarle con lo stesso nome. Ma le narrazioni non sono oggetti intercambiabili: sono organismi. Ogni mito nasce dentro un ecosistema culturale e simbolico che ne determina la forma. Quando quell’ecosistema viene alterato oltre un certo limite, la storia pu\u00f2 continuare a esistere, ma non \u00e8 pi\u00f9 la stessa specie narrativa.<\/p>\n

\u00c8 ci\u00f2 che succede alla nuova incarnazione di He-Man and the<\/em> <\/a>Masters of the Universe <\/a><\/i>(Filmation, 1983-1984),<\/i> portata sullo schermo da Travis Knight, che non riesce ad emozionare nonostante la colonna sonora di Brian May, e a fatica strappa qualche risata con la pretesa consapevolezza di un\u2019autoironia che fa solo il verso a quella dell\u2019originale.<\/p>\n

In Masters of the Universe<\/i> le difficolt\u00e0 del film affondano gi\u00e0 nelle sue premesse narrative, dal soggetto che rimuove la componente della maschera \u2013 eliminando fin dall’inizio la dialettica tra Adam e He-Man, che nell’originale non era un semplice espediente narrativo ma il dispositivo attraverso cui il mito metteva in scena il rapporto tra fragilit\u00e0 e potenza \u2013 alla sceneggiatura che procede a tentoni lungo un arco narrativo non originale costellato da siparietti triti e ritriti. Anche la regia sembra incapace di trovare un linguaggio coerente con la natura del mito: alterna spettacolo e comicit\u00e0, interrompendo sistematicamente ogni accumulo drammatico prima che possa produrre un’autentica tensione emotiva, accentuando la sensazione di assistere a un’opera che non sa cosa vuole essere.<\/p>\n

Questo fallimento avviene non perch\u00e9 la pellicola tradisce la nostalgia, ma perch\u00e9 dimentica che le forme narrative hanno una loro fisiologia, non sono semplici contenitori nei quali spostare personaggi e ambientazioni. Sono sistemi di relazioni. Se si modificano troppi elementi, ci\u00f2 che resta non \u00e8 un adattamento della stessa storia, ma un’altra storia che conserva soltanto i nomi. E allora Adam\/He-Man si trasforma nell\u2019eroe contemporaneo che deve continuamente esternalizzare le proprie emozioni, Man-at-Arms diventa il personaggio caduto in disgrazia che si alcolizza. E tutto si riduce a clich\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Il caso di Masters of the Universe<\/i> non \u00e8 isolato. Sempre pi\u00f9 spesso la narrazione contemporanea sembra confondere la reinterpretazione con la ricodifica. La prima interroga il mito; la seconda lo sostituisce, mantenendone soltanto la superficie.<\/p>\n

<\/i>La forza della serie originale di Masters of the Universe<\/i> derivava da un equilibrio particolare, costruito su personaggi archetipici che esprimevano polarit\u00e0 morali nette secondo una logica apertamente manichea, in cui l\u2019eroismo diventava simbolo e l\u2019ironia, pur presente, non rompeva la tensione narrativa, ma la esaltava. La pellicola di Knight, invece, trasferisce quella specie narrativa all\u2019interno dell\u2019ecosistema contemporaneo in cui cinismo, introspezione psicologica, decostruzione, realismo e ambiguit\u00e0 permanente forzano l\u2019originale fuori dal proprio habitat. \u00c8 come prendere un orso polare e metterlo nella savana.<\/p>\n

Le storie non possono sopravvivere a qualsiasi trasformazione. Alcune cambiano, altre evolvono. Altre ancora, semplicemente, cessano di essere ci\u00f2 che erano. Il problema non \u00e8 che Masters of the Universe<\/i> sia stato reinterpretato. \u00c8 che, nel tentativo di adattarlo a un ecosistema che non gli appartiene, si \u00e8 smarrita la forma narrativa che aveva reso quel mito riconoscibile. Non tutte le evoluzioni sono un progresso. Alcune sono semplicemente estinzioni. L’uomo pi\u00f9 forte dell’universo \u00e8 sopravvissuto a Skeletor. Non alla ricodifica.<\/p>\n
